
Update: Officer killed, 4 others shot, 2 in critical condition as Levelland SWAT standoff continues
Update: After a 11 hour stand off, officers took 22-year-old Omar Soto-Chavira into custody.
After sunset, officers cut off electricity to the city block where the house that Soto-Chavira was barricaded. Robots from Lubbock County SWAT and the Lubbock Police Department were used to locate Soto-Chavira alone in the bathroom of the home.

Lubbock County Sherriff Kelly Rowe stated that once the suspect was located, chemical agents were deployed, forcing Soto-Chavira out of the bathroom to a portion of the home that had been previously “opened up” by law enforcement.
Soto-Chavira surrecnder to officers at approximately 11:30 p.m. and was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Sgt. Shawn Wilson with Levelland Police was taken into immediate surgery, in stable but critical condition as of 11:30 p.m., Thursday.
As the stand off continued, a massive police and first responder escort of Wilson’s body took place.
Update: According to the Justice of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas, Sgt. Josh Bartlett, SWAT Leader for Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was killed in the Levelland SWAT standoff on Thursday afternoon. They say two other deputies were shot and are in critical condition. One is a Hockley County Sheriff’s Office deputy and the other is a Levelland police officer. One additional officer was also injured with status unknown.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, Levelland police, Hockley County Sheriff’s Office and the Levelland Sheriff’s Office are all on the scene. They have now been joined by the FBI, the ATF, a K9 unit, a gang unit, and the LPD Mobile Command Unit.
Previous reporting: Four police officers have been wounded in a SWAT standoff in Levelland, Texas, in Hockley County, about 30 miles west of Lubbock, Texas.
At this time, local law enforcement is dealing with a barricaded subject in the 1100 block of 10th Street, between Ave J & Ave I.
All of the officers have been transported to the hospital for treatment in Lubbock, according to police.
Two of the officers are said to be in critical condition as of 4 p.m., according to the Levelland & Hockley County News-Press. All four officers were transported to Lubbock for treatment.
Other agencies, including Hockley County Sheriff’s Office, DPS and Lubbock S.W.A.T., are onsite.
People are being advised to avoid the area, and allow law enforcement to keep the area secure.
Everyone is asked to AVOID THE AREA around 10th & Avenue J while this situation is ongoing. We are told shots are still being fired in that area. Covenant Hospital in Levelland has been placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Covenant Hospital released this statement:
We are aware of an incident that occurred near Covenant Health Levelland earlier this afternoon. As a precaution, we locked down the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers, and visitors. We will remain under lockdown until any threat is clear. We have deployed Covenant security officers to the Levelland hospital as an additional security measure.
We are supporting our community and law enforcement officers in Levelland and are keeping the Levelland community and the injured officers in our prayers.
