Amazon Contractor to lay off 400 workers as Amazon continues their quest for logistics DOMINATION!
A California based Amazon Contractor has announced that they plan to lay off 408 delivery drivers and warehouse workers in two states after the logistics giant cancelled their contract with the contractor.
The delivery company, Greenwich Logistics, which conducts business under the name 1-800 Courier announced the layoffs through the federally mandated WARN Act filings, which require employers to notify the State of looming layoffs with a minimum of 60-day advanced notice.
The layoffs will begin March 20th, and according to the WARN Act notice will include the delivery station is Sweickley, PA as well as four locations in California.
As we all know, Amazon seems to be on a mission replacing contracted delivery service providers with their new franchisee delivery network. Those blue sprinter vans are popping up everywhere. As a result of this several large independent delivery partners have been forced to lay off their employees. According to Business Insider, Letter Ride, Inpax, Urban Mobility Now, and Sheard-Loman Transport announced upward of 2,000 layoffs in October. Another company, Pinnacle Logistics, who services Amazon’s Prime Air fleet in Baltimore, plans to lay off more than 1,600 workers in April as Amazon shifts more jobs in-house.
As Amazon continues to grow in the logistics space, there is one thing that I am personally curious about…….What is the plan for these trucks?
