BATTLEGROUND PORTLAND: Day 54 Portland’s Mayor gassed!
Well, it happened again. Portland showed the world just how much they suck. Protesters continued to riot well into the night for the 54th consecutive night in a row. Video’s from last night’s riots would be hard to tell from other nights past, except one main thing. Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler thought it would be a good time to show up…..literally.
Earlier in the day, the Mayor’s office announced that the Mayor would travel down to the warzone and see what it was like. Maybe he had plans of some elaborate speech designed to bridge the gap between his administration and the anarchists and extremists that have held the city hostage. While his intentions are unknown, one thing became clear very early in the night: he was not welcome.
Protesters verbally and at times physically confronted the mayor at times throughout the night. The mayor spent the better part listening to questions from the crowd, and when it came time to answer, the crowd would scream insults drowning out any attempt to answer. One statement was was clear to hear was that the Mayor did not approve of the federal law enforcement presence and said if there is gas tonight, well…he would be gassed.
Antifa, in a hold-my-IPA moment, launched their attack on the federal building and the federal officers protecting it, setting fires, shooting commercial grade fireworks and water bottles at the officers. The Mayor, saw his chance to make headlines, went to the front of the riot line and watched the attack first hand. Federal agents came out, used chemical agents in an attempt to disperse the crowd (and likely Wheeler), only to be pelted with debris and improvised explosive devices.
The Mayor, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he was putting his security detail through hell, took the time to turn to a nearby camera and flat out lie saying “I can tell you with 100% honesty….I saw nothing that provoked this response.”
Well soon after that, additional protesters breached the security barricades and continued to set fires and aim fireworks at the officers. Federal officers again deployed CS gas, completely overwhelming the Mayor and the security detail members who told the Mayor it was time to go. As they were leaving, Antifa extremists were hot on their tail and soon caught up with the Mayor. One extremist is seen on film attempting to pull the Mayor away from his security detail, dragging the Mayor by his shirt. The detail regains control, and fights….literally fights their way to safety.
Back at the courthouse, the extremists continued their assault. Portland Police declared a riot 30 minutes after the Mayor’s departure, but never came to assist the Federal officers, who continued to battle the extremists for several hours.
