Tensions reached a breaking point following a police involved shooting Sunday afternoon in Chicago. On Sunday night and early into Monday morning, as many as 200 stores were looted is widespread unrest.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of a man with a gun, and located an individual in the area who matched the suspect description, according to a press release from the Chicago Police Department.
Officers attempted to confront the male subject in a nearby alley, but he fled and then produced a gun, firing shots at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the offender, who police said was in his late teens or early 20s. His condition is unknown.
Following the shooting, several police were injured when an angry mob attacked police officers at the shooting scene.
Later Sunday night, hundreds of people swarmed downtown Chicago and began looting stores. For the next several hours, as many as two-hundred stores were attacked and looted. Police reportedly struggled to control the mob. During our live episode of Wake Up America! we heard several separate shootings.
