NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – On Wednesday, authorities say that a Deputy constable and a property manager were shot while serving an eviction notice at an apartment complex in the West Lake Forest area of New Orleans.
The shooting was reported around 10 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Coronet Court.
First City Court Constable Lambert Boissiere Jr. said the injured officer is Warren Smith, a longtime constable who formerly served in the New Orleans Police Department.
Smith was shot in the shoulder and was taken to the hospital, authorities said.
The 36-year-old property manager was shot in the chest, according to NOPD Chief Shaun Ferguson, who held press conference at University Medical Center, where the deputy constable is being treated.
Both of the men are alert and responsive, Ferguson said. Their vitals were stable as of 11:30 a.m.
Law enforcement officers, including New Orleans police and members of the FBI and U.S. Marshals, are at the complex and are actively searching for the alleged shooter, authorities said. They are armed with rifles as they walk the streets.
