Update: 18:43 est. Secret Service confirms officer involved shooting via Twitter.
President Trump was speaking during his daily coronavirus press-conference in the White House Monday, when he was abruptly rushed away by U.S. Secret Service. Within minutes, the President came back to the podium and told reporters that there “was a shooting outside of the White House.”
According to the President, Secret Service agents engaged an armed suspect just outside of the White House in the area of 17th and Penn. The President told reporters the suspect was currently being transported to the hospital and his condition was unknown.
“There was a shooting outside of the White House and it seems to be very well under control. I’d like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick and very effective work,” Trump said when he returned and resumed his coronavirus update just minutes later. .
Fox News’ John Roberts reported hearing the sound of two gunshots outside the White House as the briefing began.
The Secret Service confirmed there was an officer involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania on Twitter.
