CWRV Transport Shutting Down
Drivers reported on Facebook tonight that CWRV Transport, LLC one of the Nation’s leading RV and Motorhome haulers in North America is closing down effective November 1st, 2019. CWRV lists that it is the exclusive hauler for the RV Chain Camping World. SAFER lists the Trucking company as having 540 Trucks and drivers and more than 22 million road miles in 2018.
According to one employee CWRW “we have about 25 employees, all of our contractors are independent, No company drivers” The news seemed to come as a shock to most people on the CWRV Transporters group page as many stated there was no warning. The trucking company reportedly broke the news to its drivers, all owner-operators via a mass email today.
This appears to come as a shock to most drivers. According to many of the drivers on the Facebook group CWRV Transporters, some drivers stated they were hired in the past week and were abruptly notified that they will no longer have a job. There is some speculation by drivers in this group that this closure is a result of a $26.6 million verdict for a deadly crash that caused the deaths of Michael and Jill Walters on June 30th, 2017 when a CWRV Transport driver reportedly fell asleep and hit them head on. The surviving children, Nicole and Nicholas Walters were awarded $26.6 million by a Denver jury late last month, in a wrongful death lawsuit against driver Mark Bollinger and CWRV Transport, LLC, the company he was working for. Bollinger had fallen asleep at the wheel and pleaded guilty last year to careless driving charges in Logan County District Court.
The jury in the civil trial agreed that Bollinger should be considered an agent of the company even though he was employed as a private contractor. It’s a verdict that could force trucking companies to make changes because of the jury’s view of the employment relationship between the driver and the company.
