
Train derailment caught on video
A train derailed early this morning forcing the evacuation of two school’s and residents within a mile radius after five tankers were found to be leaking chemicals.
The train, owned by Kansas City Southern derailed at about 7:30 Thursday morning along FM 1130 in Mauriceville according to a news release from the Orange County office of Emergency Management.
According to the release, 25 rail cars were derailed from the tracks. 15 of the cars were loaded and five tanks were breached. Four of the cars were leaking a petroleum product “that did not represent a risk to the general population” while another tanker was leaking a corrosive product “that is being contained” according to the release.
The one-mile evacuation zone was established out of an abundance of caution.
Kansas City Southern workers are working with local and state agencies to clean the spilled products, according to the release.
