A photo is circulating online of yet another possible attack on a trucker. This time, it reportedly involved a tanker truck and a domestic terrorist walking down the side of Meridian, MS on Wednesday.
According to a screenshot posted online of an email sent to drivers, one company warned that a Superior driver was traveling down Interstate 20 near mile marker 124 in Meridian when he noticed a person walking down the side of the interstate. The driver changed lanes to avoid the person, and as he passed the pedestrian, the person threw what appeared to be a cocktail bomb at the tanker. The driver initially stopped to call 911, but then saw that the person running towards the stopped truck.
According to the message posted online, the 911 operator instructed the trucker to keep moving and meet a trooper a few exits down the road. The driver was reportedly told by the trooper that this was the fourth call they had for this kind of event, according to the message.
As the protests and riots continue throughout the country protesting the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis Police Officer, drivers have found themselves facing new dangers on the road. A trucker in Minneapolis was pulled from his truck and beaten after protesters blocking the interstate. A Fed-Ex driver in St. Louis was forced to pull away from a group of violent looters, striking and killing a protester. Another driver in southern California reportedly escaped an attack as protesters smashed out the driver’s side window of his truck in an attempt to get to the driver. A driver in Maine was charged with a Class-C felony after, according to witnesses “inch[ing]” his truck through a crowd of violent protesters.
There have been numerous other reports of drivers being warned of bricks and other material being thrown from overpasses from all over the country. Drivers need to use caution and stay vigilant. If you see something suspicious, get your truck to a safe place and call 911.
