A trucker is lucky to be alive after fleeing a gunman who opened fire on him on a Texas highway Thursday morning, according to the police.
The trucker, Afram Matanwui was hauling a load to Lubbock on highway 82 just west of Benjamin, TX when he encountered a red Mustang partially blocking the highway above him. Matanwui told KTXS he noticed a man and woman standing outside of the vehicle. As Matanwui slowed down, he heard the sound of gun shots and saw muzzle flashes ahead of him.
Matanwui started to back up his truck on the highway as the gunman, identified as Chase Roundtree of Lubbock started chasing him while shooting.
“He was running like a Rambo movie you know like that he was coming you could see the flash of his gun,” Matanawui told the new-station.
Matanawui eventually abandoned his truck and started to run away from the pursuing gunman, jumping on the running board of a box truck who helped the driver escape. This is where police say Roundtree and his female accomplice, Mychele Mendez jumped in Matanawui’s semi and fled.
Police later stopped the stolen semi, and Roundtree exited the truck with the rifle. Police opened fire when Roundtree pointed the gun at them. He was flown to Lubbock University Medical Center in serious condition. Mendez was arrested and is in jail.
Be safe out there drivers.
