SPARKS, Nevada – On October 18, an armed man showed up outside of the Sparks Police Department armed with a handgun, fired at the facility and a lengthy standoff ensued before he was shot and killed by officers.
The Washoe County coroner the man shot and killed identified the man shot and killed as 36-year-old Jason Thorpe.
Authorities say that just before 3 a.m. on Oct. 18 a sergeant with the Sparks Police Department encountered Thorpe, who had fired his handgun outside of the station, located at 1701 E. Prater Way.
After several hours of negotiations, officers shot the man after he rushed at the police on scene and fired his gun a second time.
Officers provided lifesaving efforts, but Thorpe died on scene.
